Bhubaneswar, 12/02/2025( Odisha Samachar / Rajat Mohapatra )-:A high-level meeting chaired by Shri Manoj Ahuja, IAS, Chief Secretary, Odisha, held on 11th February 2025 at the 2nd floor Conference Hall of Lok Seva Bhawan, Bhubaneswar in the presence of Ms. Deepti Gaur Mukerjee, Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), Government of India,and Ms. Anu Garg, Development Commissioner, Odisha to discuss and strategize the effective implementation of the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme (PMIS) in the State.
Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, highlighted the successful implementation of PMIS Round 1 across the country and shared that the first intern under the scheme was from Odisha.
Under PMIS, eligible candidates between 21 to 24 years will be provided one-year (12-month) internship opportunities in top companies across India. Each intern will receive a monthly stipend of ₹5,000, with ₹500 contributed by the partner company and ₹4,500 provided by the Government of India through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Additionally, a one-time grant of ₹6,000 will be provided at the time of joining. Every intern will also be covered under Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY).
The scheme presents a significant opportunity for youth by enhancing their employability and facilitating entry into top companies through structured internships aligned with industry demands, with experiential learning through the On-the-Job-Training.
The Secretary, MCA acknowledged the State Government’s concerted efforts in implementing PMIS Round 1 and emphasized the ongoing preparations for Round 2. Hands-on training for State Nodal Officers is currently underway to ensure smooth execution, For the Round, the application for various internship opportunities is expected to be live from 15th February 2025.
Chief Secretary, Odisha reaffirmed the commitment of the State to proactively engage in implementation of the scheme by ensuring effective coordination between key departments including Skill Development & Technical Education, School & Mass Education, Higher Education, Labour & ESI and Housing & Urban Development Department. Necessary steps will be taken to maximize the outreach of the IEC campaign in a targeted manner to ensure all the available opportunities are filled. Principals of Government ITIs and Polytechnics, and Model Career Centers at the district level, will facilitate awareness, guidance, and application support for eligible candidates.Field officials from the School and Mass Education Department and Higher Education Department will also be actively engaged in mobilizing candidates.
