Health Dept urges people to engage in source reduction activities to curb Dengue
Bhubaneswar, 16/05/2025( Odisha Samachar / Rajat Mohapatra )-The Department of Health and Family Welfare observed the National Dengue Day 2025 in the Conference Hall of Combined Health Directorate here today with an aim to enhance public awareness and promoting effective dengue prevention strategies across the state.
Dr. Pravakar Sahu, Additional Director of Vector Borne Diseases, welcomed participants and emphasized the importance of continued public health efforts under the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP).
Dr. Nilakantha Mishra, Director of Public Health, discussed the current epidemiological situation in the state, stressing the need for coordinated source reduction activities to curb the disease. He highlighted the role of widespread awareness in controlling dengue.
Dr. Pramila Baral, Additional Director of Public Health, focused on dengue control in urban areas and the critical role of urban surveillance units. Meanwhile, the Additional DMET Dr. Brajakishore Dash underlined the involvement of medical colleges in managing severe dengue cases.
Dr. Suchitra Sasmal, Sr. Regional Director, and Regional Director Dr. Nilam Somalkar reinforced the importance of adhering to Government of India guidelines, ensuring continued support for state-level control measures.
Dr. Jirendra Mohan Babartta, Special Secretary (Public Health) emphasized the need for community participation in dengue prevention. Dr. Shubhashisha Mohanty, Joint DHS (VBD), concluded the session with a vote of thanks, urging everyone to follow this year’s theme: “Check, Clean, Cover: Steps to Defeat Dengue.”
