Jagatsinghpur, 20/08/2026( Odisha Samachar): TP Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL), a joint venture of Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, flagged off its Solar Rath from the Office of the District Collector, Jagatsinghpur, to accelerate awareness and adoption of rooftop solar under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.
The Solar Rath was inaugurated by Zilla Parishad President Shri Manoj Kumar Bhoi and Shri J. Sonal, IAS, Collector & District Magistrate, Jagatsinghpur, in the presence of CDO Cum EO, ZP Shri Akshay Pilley (IAS), ADM(Rev)Shri Sambit Kumar Rout, Chief Engineer,RE, TPCODL Shri Bibidha Samal, Addl Chief Engineer, TPCODL, Paradip Circle Shri Siba Prasad Swain and other senior TPCODL officials. The awareness vehicle will travel across the district, including the selected Model Solar Villages, educating citizens about rooftop solar, government subsidies, eligibility criteria and the installation process. The Solar Sanga team will also interact with consumers and provide on-the-spot guidance.
Earlier, the District Level Committee (DLC), chaired by the Collector, selected 10 villages to participate in the Model Solar Village Competition under the PM Surya Ghar scheme. The villages will compete over a 90-day period to achieve the highest number of rooftop solar installations, with the winning village becoming eligible for ₹1 crore in Central Financial Assistance as a Renewable Energy Development Grant.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri J. Sonal, IAS, said, “The Solar Rath will carry awareness about rooftop solar directly to the people and enable more households to benefit from the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. This initiative will strengthen renewable energy adoption and support sustainable development across Jagatsinghpur.”

Through initiatives such as Mo Chhata, Mo Sanchaya, Gram Sabha outreach programmes and the Solar Rath campaign, TPCODL continues to make clean, affordable and sustainable solar energy accessible to households across its distribution area.
