New Delhi/ Bhubaneswar,26/4/2025 ( Odisha Samachar / Rajat Mohapatra )- Minister Housing & Urban Development Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra today visited the state-of-the-art Waste-to-Energy Plant at Okhla, managed by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. The plant currently processes around 2,000 metric tonnes (MT) of municipal solid waste daily and generates approximately 23 megawatts (MW) of green energy.
The Minister held detailed discussions on the plant’s functioning, technology, and operational practices with the officials present. Plans to expand the facility’s capacity to 3,000 MT of waste processing and 30 MW of energy production were also shared during the interaction.
Impressed with the efficiency and effectiveness of the plant, Dr. Mahapatra expressed that such an initiative could play a vital role in addressing waste management challenges while contributing to clean energy generation in our state. He assured that the concept would be seriously considered for implementation to promote sustainable waste management practices.
Mr. Sandeep Dutta, Head-Project Management for Okhla Waste-to-Energy Management Plant, along with senior officers of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, explained the working of the facility and accompanied Dr. Mahapatra during the visit.Mr Binay Dash, Addl Secy H&UD Odisha was also present during the visit.
The Hon’ble Minister appreciated the efforts of the Municipal Corporation and the plant management team for their innovative approach in turning waste into a valuable energy resource, aligning with the goals of a cleaner and greener India.
