Visit of World Food Prize Laureate to ICAR-CIFA

Bhubaneswar, 01/10/2022 ( Odisha Samachar )- Dr. Shakuntala HaraksinghThilsted,2021 World Food Prize Laureate,the first woman of Asian heritage  and the Global Leader for Nutrition visited ICAR-CIFA, Kausalyaganga, Bhubaneswar and delivered a talk on   “Aquatic Food Systems for Nourishing People and Planet’. She shared her ground-breaking research experience  on the small native fish specieswith the scientists, technical officers,  researchers, students and staffs. Her innovative and pathbreaking  research on nutrition-sensitive approaches to food production have improved the diets, nutrition and livelihoods of millions of vulnerable women, men and children living in low- and middle-income countries across Asia, Africa, and the Pacific. She emphasized that food security is the main path to develop the socio-economic status in any country in the world to defeat malnutrition and this can be achieved through increasing aquaculture production, and incorporation of fish in the diets.Dr Saroj Kumar swain, Director, ICAR-CIFA briefed about thebreeding of wide variety of fish, species diversification,  introduction of new feed for different life stages of fish,  various disease diagnostic kits, improved variety Jayanti rohu,catla, CIFA- BROOD, CIFA- GI Scampi and many other advanced technologies developed by the ICAR-CIFA. He also informed  her about the prestigious ranking of  the ICAR-CIFA in the top 10 institutes within the ICAR system . This is the second  lecture series arranged by the Science club of the ICAR-CIFA, and members expressed gratitude to Dr Shakuntala for addressing the gathering with her path breaking research experiences.
