EX-ASSISTANT FISHERIES OFFICER, BELAGUNTHA BLOCK, DIST-GANJAM CONVICTED IN VIGILANCE TRAP CASE.

Cuttack,11/10/2021 ( Odisha Samachar )- Sri Epili Udayanath, Ex-Assistant Fisheries Officer (Retired), Belaguntha Block, Dist-Ganjam was facing trial in the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur in Berhampur Vigilance P.S. Case No.24 dated 06.06.2012 U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 for demand and acceptance of illegal gratification of Rs.10,000/- (Rupees Ten Thousand) from complainant to prepare the bill for payment to the labors engaged in execution of Farm Pond.

Today, i.e. on 11.10.2021, the Hon’ble Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur convicted Sri Udayanath, Ex-Asst. Fisheries Officer and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 1 year and to pay fine of Rs.2,000/- (Rupees Ten Thousand), and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 months for the offence U/s 7  Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The Hon’ble Court further sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 years and to pay fine of Rs.5,000/-(Rupees Five Thousand), and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 months for the offence U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Both the sentences are to run concurrently.

Shri A.K. Nayak, the then Inspector of Vigilance, Berhampur Division had investigated the case and Sri P.K. Dora, Addl. Spl. P.P, Vigilance, Berhampur conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution.
