Cuttack,16/03/2023 ( Odisha Samachar )- Today i.e. on 16.03.2023, Sri Birbal Satnami, Programme Assistant, office of Block Social Security Officer, Umerkote Block, Dist-Nabarangpur has been apprehended by Odisha Vigilance for demanding and accepting undue advantage (bribe) of Rs.5,000/- (Rupees Five Thousand) from a complainant for processing his application and facilitating release of death benefit under National Family Benefit Scheme (JATIYA PARIBAR MANGAL YOJONA) due to death of his bread earning father.
The complainant, a BPL card holder whose father was the sole earning member of the family, had expired on 11.11.2019. After knowing about the scheme, he applied in November 2022 for the monetary benefit of Rs 20,000/- as entitled under the National Family Benefit Scheme. Since then, the complainant was approaching the accused Sri Satnami to get his work done but in vain. Finding no other way, complainant intimated to the Vigilance Authority, and accordingly, Sri Satnami was nabbed by Vigilance officials today while accepting the bribe amount.
Based on the above complaint, a trap was laid on 16.03.2023 wherein the accused Sri Birbal Satnami, Programme Assistant was caught by the team of Odisha Vigilance near the entrance gate of Umerkote Block Office while demanding and accepting undue advantage (bribe) of Rs.5,000/- (Rupees Five Thousand) from the complainant. The entire bribe money was recovered from the possession of Sri Satnami and seized in presence of witnesses. Left hand wash as well as pant pocket wash of Sri Satnami gave positive chemical reaction, confirming acceptance and handling of bribe money by him. Following the trap, simultaneous searches have been launched on the residential house of Sri Satnami at Adhikariguda, Umerkote and his office room at Umerkote Block Office. Sri Satnami, Programme Assistant has been arrested and will be forwarded to the Court.
In this connection, Koraput Vigilance PS Case No.10 dated 15.03.2023 U/s 7 PC Act, 1988 as amended by PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered and is under investigation.
