Central University of Odisha observes Gandhi Jayanti, Shastri Jayanti & the International Day of Non-violence

Koraput, 6/10/2022 ( Odisha Samachar )-The Gandhi Jayanti, Shastri Jayanti & the International Day of Non-violence was observed by the Central University of Odisha, Koraput at its permanent campus at Sunebeda. The Vice-Chancellor Prof. Chakradhar Tripathi conveyed his best wishes for a successful programme. Dr. Phagunath Bhoi, Public Relations Officer of the University inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp and offering flowers at the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri and spoke on this occasion. Shri Manas Panda, PS to Vice-Chancellor delivered the introductory address.

Dr. Bhoi highlighted the importance of the way of life, thought of non-violence and activities of Gandhiji in the present society in his address. He said the UN has declared that the 2nd of October, the Birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, will be observed as International Day of Non-violence. He also elaborated on the life, thoughts and great contributions of Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, the 2nd Prime Minister of independent India. Shastriji started the green revolution and white revolution towards the development of Independent India. Popular brand Amul is the product of the white revolution, he said. He was a tireless Champion of the interests of the working class and peasants. The slogan he gave us, “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan”, resonates with people even today. As long as India remains, Gandhiji and Shastri Ji will continue to occupy a place of great respect in our hearts.

Shri Manas Panda, Section Officer of the University coordinated the programme and extended the vote of thanks. All the staff of the University paid rich floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri.
