Kausalyaganga, Bhubaneswar 10 March 2022 ( Odisha Samachar )- Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary, Department of Agriculture Research and Education& Director General, ICAR inaugurated the Technology Demonstration Facility at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Khordha today. The facility built with financial support of RKVY will have demonstration units for mushroom production, food processing & value addition and poultry production and will be used for imparting skill training to farmers and farm women. DG was accompanied by Deputy Director General (Fisheries Science) Dr. J. K. Jena, ADG(Inland Fisheries) Dr. B.P. Mohanty Director, ICAR-CIFA, Dr. S. K. Swain and other senior officials of ICAR-CIFA and KVK, Khordha. Sri Ajaya Kumar Dash, Head of KVK Khordha briefed about the new facility and took the dignitaries around the different units. It has been working untiringly towards the development of agricultural sector in the district by way of technology refinement and assessment.
Earlier, the DG visited an exhibition at the KVK campus where 25 women self-help groups (SHGs) from different blocks of Khordha district have displayed the value-added agriculture products, vegetables, fishes, poultry birds, honey, vermi-compost, broom, door mat, handicrafts, applique work, etc.During interaction with farmers and farm women, DG urged the KVK to facilitate the SHGs for improving their marketing skills and organise them to form as collectives such as Farmer Producer Organisations to scaleup their operations. He said Government of India has set a target of creating 10000 FPOs by the year 2025 and KVKs would play a key role in mobilizing farmers and providing technical support. He also felicitated two award winning farmers-Sri Batakrushna Sahoo, Padmashree (2020) and Sri Surendra Bhol, IARI Innovative Farmer (2020).
Later in the evening, he also addressed the scientists & other staff of the ICAR-CIFA. He urged the scientists to focus on the outreach & effective communication of scientific research to the stakeholders and reorient the research priorities for bringing out innovations that can increase the income of the farmers. Directors & In-charges of the other Odisha based ICAR sister organizationslike ICAR-NRRI, ICAR-IIWM, ICAR-ICFMD, ICAR-CIWA, ICAR-IIHR, ICAR-CARI and ICAR-IIVR have participated in the meeting.
