FURTHER, CASH APPROX RS.5 LAKH RECOVERED & SEIZED DURING HOUSE SEARCHES.

Cuttack,4/1/2026 ( Odisha Samachar ) Today i.e. on 04.01.2026, Sri Bijay Kumar Barik, Inspector-in-Charge (IIC), CRRI PS, Cuttackhasbeen apprehended by Odisha Vigilance for demanding and taking bribe of Rs.40,000/- (Rupees FortyThousand) from a licensed Liquor Vendor to allow his business smoothly.Sri Barik was demanding more and more on several occasions, and the vendor was not able to fulfil. Following this, the vendor approached the Vigilance authorities.

Based on the above complaint, a trap was laid on 04.01.2026, wherein the accused Sri Bijay Kumar Barik, IIC wasnabbed by the team of Odisha Vigilance at Rajmahal chhak, Bhubaneswar for demanding and taking undue advantage (bribe) of Rs.40,000/- (Rupees Forty Thousand)from a licensed Liquor Vendor. The entire bribe money was recovered and seized from the possession of Sri Barik in presence of witnesses. Both hands wash as well as pant pocket wash of Sri Barik gave positive chemical reaction, confirming acceptance and handling of bribe money by him. Following the trap, simultaneous searches have been conductedon the residential Govt. quarter of Sri Barik at Unit-1, Bhubaneswar and his office chamber.During house searches;

1. Cash of Rs.4,96,120/- has been unearthed & seized from residential Govt. quarter of Sri Barik, IIC at Unit-1, Bhubaneswar (picture given below).
2. Triple storeyed building at Sisupalagarh, Bhubaneswar(picture given below).

• Newly constructed double storeyed building at his native village Derabis, Kendrapada (picture given below).

 Costly wrist watches (picture given below).

AccusedSri Bijay Kumar Barik, Inspector-in-Charge (IIC), CRRI PS, Cuttackwas arrested and forwarded to the Court.

In this connection, Vigilance Cell PS Case No.01 dated 03.01.2026 U/s 7Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered and is under investigation.

Sri Barik (DOB:-15.06.1983) entered into Govt. service on 21.09.2012 as SI of Police.  Worked in the capacity of SI of Police in different Police Stations in Boudh district from January-2014 to February-2019. From March-2019, he was promoted to the rank of IIC and posted at Nayapali PS. Then, he worked as IIC from November-2021 under PoliceCommissionerate. From February-2024, he has been working as IIC, CRRI PS, Cuttack and is continuing as such till date.
