Bhubaneswar, 11/10/2025 ( Odisha Samachar / Rajat Mohapatra )- The much-awaited ITTF-ATTU 28th Asian Table Tennis Team Championships 2025 officially began today at the Athletics centre of Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar. The inaugural ceremony was graced by Shri Suryabanshi Suraj, Hon’ble Minister, Sports & Youth Services, Higher Education, Odia Language, Literature and Culture, Government of Odisha, who officially inaugurated the championship.
Sports Minister Shri Suryabanshi Suraj expressed pride that Odisha is hosting international Championships, highlighting the State’s growing prominence in the global sports arena. He further added that it is a matter of great happiness for Odisha that this championship is being held here, and we warmly welcome players from all 22 countries participating in this championship.
The ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including Ms. Sheikha Hayat Al Khalifa, Acting Regional Vice-President, ATTU & President, Commonwealth Table Tennis Federation; Shri Dushyant Chautala, President, Table Tennis Federation of India; Mrs. Meghna Ahlawat; and Shri Sachin Ramchandra Jadhav, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Sports & Youth Services Department, Government of Odisha. Padma Shri Awardee and India’s Table Tennis legend, Mr. A. Sharath Kamal, the Brand Ambassador of this event.
The championship will feature exciting matches in both men’s and women’s categories. In the morning session, 12 teams — including Sri Lanka, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Maldives, Uzbekistan, Oman, DPR Korea, Macau China, Thailand, Bangladesh, Qatar, and Nepal — will compete in the group stage matches.
Odisha extends a warm welcome to all participants and wishes every team great success in this prestigious tournament.
