Bhubaneswar, 29/5/2025 ( Odisha Samachar/Rajat Mohapatra )-In a historic initiative in the Indian agriculture sector , Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan today officially launched the ‘ Vikasit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan ( VKSA-2025)’ at Indian Council of Agricultural Research Central Institute of Freshwater Fisheries ( ICAR-CIFA), Kausalya Ganga, Bhubaneswar . This Abhiyan is in line with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat , which aims to build a sustainable and prosperous India by making the latest scientific technologies in agriculture and fisheries sector reach the farmers.

In his inaugural address, Shri Chauhan underlined the visionary thinking of VKSA-2025 and said that this campaign aims to reach more than 1.5 crore farmers of the country. He said that this campaign is not only focused on technical dissemination and capacity building , but will also become a medium to connect farmers with innovations by establishing direct dialogue with them. Shri Chauhan, describing fisheries as an integral part of India’s food security, emphasized the need to effectively deliver all the technologies developed by ICAR-CIFA to the farmers , so that their income increases and a strong fisheries sector can be developed.

On this occasion, Deputy Chief Minister of Odisha Government and Minister of Agriculture , Farmer Empowerment and Energy Shri Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo , Minister of Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Shri Gokulananda Malik , Ekamra MLA Shri Babu Singh and Pipli MLA Shri Ashrit Patnaik were present.

From ICAR , Director General & Secretary ( DARE) Dr. M.L. Jat , Deputy Director General (Fisheries), Dr. J.K. Jena , Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension), Dr. Rajbir Singh and Director, ICAR-ATARI, Kolkata, Dr. Pradeep Dey were prominently present.

Terming VKSA-2025 as a transformational pre-kharif campaign , Dr M.L. Jat said that this initiative is an effective means of linking scientific research with the ground needs of farmers. More than 600 farmers and women from self-help groups attended the program and interacted with scientists to learn about advanced technologies , sustainable farming methods and integrated approaches related to agriculture and fisheries. During this , in a major achievement in the fisheries sector, an innovative fish vaccine called “ CIFA Argu VAX-I” developed by ICAR- CIFA was launched by the Hon’ble Agriculture Minister. This vaccine will prove helpful in reducing the economic loss of fish farmers by preventing parasitic infection in fish.

An exhibition was also organised during the event showcasing products and innovations developed by Self Help Groups ( SHGs), Krishi Vigyan Kendra ( KVK), Khordha and ICAR-CIFA . The event showcased the power of community participation and grassroots innovation.

The programme concluded successfully with the vote of thanks by Dr. Rajbir Singh, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension) , who thanked all the dignitaries , participants and associates for making the launch of this campaign historic and impressive. This campaign will be run across the country from 29 May to 12 June 2025 , with the aim of creating an inclusive , empowered and future-oriented agricultural system
