POLICE –PUBLIC INTERFACE ON RESTORATIVE JUSTICE, Phase-II.

Bhubaneswar, 23/12/2022 ( Odisha Samachar )- A “Police-Public Interface” meeting was organised by Society for Nature, Education and Health (SNEH)–a registered voluntary organization working in the field of Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution on December 23, 2022 at SNEH’s Peace and Conflict Resolution Training Centre, situated in Mayfair Nagar of Salia Sahi Slum, Bhubaneswar. Chief Guest, Mrs Bijayini Singh, ACP, Headquarter, Commissionerate Police, Bhubaneswar, inaugurated the event along with Mr. Achutananda Swain, Local Corporator, Mr Biswaranjan Sahoo, IIC, Nayapalli Police Station, who attended the program as Guest of Honor. Ms Kabita Suar, Mitarani Sethi, Mr. Prithviraj Swain Advocates from the Bhubaneswar Bar Association, also actively participated in the interface. The main objective of the interface was to promote the Restorative Justice process as a means to settle disputes and conflicts and promote unity building in the community. As many as 70 people from the Salia Sahi slum, local leaders from eight Peace Committees and Sahi Committees and Police Mitras participated in the program. Mr. Akhaya Mishra gave the welcome address. Programs like “Police-Public Interface” can help develop bonding between the police and the community, so essential for peacebuilding and prevention of violence. Police and public should work together to ensure safety and security of the city, said Mrs Bijayini Singh. In this connection, Mr Biswaranjan Sahoo, IIC, Nayapalli Police Station said that, the community should be more disciplined and should be aware about legal rights and the consequences of crime. Community involvement in solving of petty cases is a good sign of democratization of justice and we are happy that SNEH is encouraging this practice through the process of Restorative Justice among the stakeholders in the slums.

Mr Prasanta Kumar Pradhan, Coordinator, Restorative Justice Project, conducted the program. Vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. Dibakar Mahali of SNEH.
