ICAR-CIFA organizes KisanGosthi at Anthuari, Khordha

Bhubaneswar,26/11/2022 ( Odisha Samachar )-  Under Farmer FIRST Project, ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Bhubaneswar organized a Kisangosthi at Anthuari village, Khordha district with the participation of related stakeholders viz., team of ICAR-CIFA Scientists, OUAT Professor , Line Department official, members of farmers association and farmers etc.). Around 70 farmers have participated in the programme. Dr. Bama Shankar Rath, Professor & HoD, Dept of Agronomy, OUAT, Bhubaneswar; Dr. S.K Mishra, Principal Scientist, ICAR-IIWM; Mrs. Sandhyarani Balabantaray, AFO, Balianta graced the occasion.

Dr. H. K. De, Project in charge introduced about the project explainingitsobjectives in gist and encouraged the farmers for collaboration among farmers-scientists to maximize fish productivity by utilising latest technologies of ICAR-CIFA as well as to promote farmer-farmer extension. Prof.Rath, interacted with the farmers explaining about the detailed science of making manure by utilising locally available waste materials and enterprises that needs to be taken for doubling farmer’s income in the subsequent years to come. He also emphasized on reducing the costs incurred in the entire cultivation process of farmers by effectively utilizing the available inputs at the same time ensuring proper soil health. Dr Mishra urged the farmers to join hands and form producer companies that would help realizing better price for their produces.

Mrs. Sandhyarani Balabantaray explained about the schemessponsored by State Govt. such as MPY (Mo Pokhari Yojana) explaining its details regarding structure of subsidy and how it can create an impact in maximizing fish productivity among fish farmers. Dr. Subhas Sarkar, also interacted with the farmers explaining the nature of relationship between soil-water explaining the inputs that needs to be provided timely to augment the fish production. Dr. G.S. Saha; Mr Sisir Kumar Mohanty; Sri Sreenivasulu also participated in the gosthi.

The scientists also visited one fish based integrated farming system in the village. During this program around 10 pond water samples were analysed by Mr. V. Bhaskar Rao and report containing details of manuring, liming etc. were provided to the farmers. At the end, Sri D. P. Rath, Asst. Chief Technical Officer, thanked the entire audience including all the beneficiaries of Anthuari village and encouraged them to build excellent rapport with ICAR-CIFA in the coming years.
