Bhubaneswar, 18/10/2022 (Odisha Samachar) – Odisha’s famous Kandhamal herb has received NIP Award. Kandhamal herb got this award by getting the most votes in the agriculture category. This award has been given for the year 2021-22. While the award was presented in the presence of Union Minister Piyush Goyal at the IP Conference in New Delhi on Saturday, no representative from Odisha was present to receive it. Researchers working on GI Dr. Anita Sabat said, this is a matter of great pride for Orissa and Odia. If there was more publicity, we could have won awards in other categories as well. He said, for the first time, the National Intellectual Property (NIP) Awards were organized for GI-certified materials. For this, public opinion polls were conducted through voting across the country. GI materials with the highest number of votes are awarded. For this, the total GI items across the country were divided into 5 categories. It included Agriculture, Food, Handicrafts, Manufactured Goods and Natural. Each category contained different GI materials. It involved 17 GI items from Odisha. The big thing for us was from 5 categories While 4 categories have GI ingredients from Odisha, only the Natural category did not contain any GI ingredients from Odisha. Odisha in agriculture category There were three ingredients namely Kandhamal herb, Ganjam Kewda flower or kia flower (Ketki) and Arch Valley Arabica coffee. So is food Odisha Rasgola was the only one in the category. There were 12 items in handicrafts, while 9 were handicrafts and 3 were handicrafts. Ganjam’s Kewda Rukh was prominent in the manufactured goods.
