JOINT FOREST RAID BY ODISHA VIGILANCE AND TIMBER WORTH RS.2.6 LAKH SEIZED.
Cuttack,30/7/2021 ( Odisha Samachar )- Sri Chitaranjan Baliarsingh, Ex-GPTA (JE), Daringbadi Block, Dist-Kandhamal (now disengaged from service) was facing trial in the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Phulbani in Berhampur Vigilance P.S. Case No.04 dated 05.02.2018 U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 for demand and acceptance of illegal gratification of Rs.6,000/- (Rupees Six Thousand) from complainant for preparation of final bill for construction of community hall executed by him.
Today, i.e. on 30.07.2021, the Hon’ble Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Phulbani convicted Sri Baliarsingh, Ex-GPTA (JE) and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 years and to pay fine of Rs.10,000/- (Rupees Ten Thousand), and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 6 months for the offence U/s 7 Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
Shri P. Chatria, Inspector Vigilance, Berhampur Division had investigated the case and Sri V.V. Ramdas, Spl. P.P, Vigilance, Phulbani conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution.
On getting reliable information regarding illegal storage of timber at two locations of village Dhaurapalla in Borigumma Range under Jeypore Forest Division, Dist-Koraput, today i.e. on 30.07.2021, a joint forest raid was conducted by the Forest Wing of Vigilance Directorate and Koraput Vigilance Division with the assistance of local forest staff. During the raid, timber of 104 Cft. worth Rs.2.6 lakh were detected and seized. In this connection, two forest cases vide OR No. 33 & 34 of 2021-22 have been registered under Borigumma Range under Jeypore Forest Division and is under investigation.
