ICAR-CIFA celebrates 34th Annual Day

Bhubaneswar, 2/4/2021 ( Odisha Samachar )-  The ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, a premier research Institute on freshwater aquaculture in the country under the aegis of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi celebrated its 34th Annual Day with full zeal and enthusiasm at its Kausalyaganga campus on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar  Thursday.

ShriTageTaki, Hon’ble Minister (Fisheries, Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Dairy Department, Arunachal Pradesh and Shri P. K. Bisoi, Secretary, Department of Posts and Chairperson, Postal Services Board, New Delhi released twelve philatelic picture post cards along with special cachet cancellation to mark this occasion. Picture post cards with bilingual description of important freshwater fish species will go a long way in creating awareness among the farmers. Besides the cancellation mark has immense value for the enthusiasts.

Earlier Dr. S. K. Swain, Director, ICAR-CIFA welcomed all the guest, retired employees of the Institute and other dignitaries. Dr. Swain highlighted the institute’s role in developing farm worthy technologies and hand holding the state line departments in promoting scientific aquaculture.  He briefed about the several flagship schemes of Government of India viz.,  Yearlong Constitution day celebration, Mera Gaon MeraGaurav; Bharat kaamrutmohatsav; Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Tribal Sub Plan, Scheduled Caste Sub Plan, NEH, etc., that are being operated successfully by the institute. He also underscored technology assessment and refinement activities of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Khordha under the administrative control of the institute that have benefitted over 1,500 farmers and farm women.

ShriTageTaki, Hon’ble Minister (Fisheries, Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Dairy Department), Arunachal Pradesh and the Chief Guest gave away ICAR-CIFA annual awards 2020.During his address the minister thanked the Institute for establishing an Aquaculture Technology Park at Sonajuli. The park would provide exposure to advanced aquaculture technologies in the remote state. An Aquaculture Field School has also been opened in the farm of TanaNekam Tara, a progressive farmer to facilitate horizontal technology transfer among other fish farmers and rural youth.

Dr. BimalPrasanna Mohanty, ADG (Inland Fisheries) ICAR also graced the function. He expressed happiness that the Institute has made significant progress in research as well as development front. Dr P Pravin, ADG (Marine Fisheries), ICAR said that Institute has added new facilities, new regional research station at Bhatinda, Punjab; improvement in farm sector; expansion in outreach activities etc. have made CIFA’s presence felt greatly. He urged the scientists to work committedly and make Indian aquaculture more resilient.

Among others who spoke wereDr. N. Sarangi, Former Director, ICAR-CIFA ;Ms. TanaYami, Director, Papum Pare Eco Agro, Papum Pare Tea Estate Private Limited, Arunachal Pradesh; Col. JaleswarKanhar, Chief Post Master General, Odisha circle and Sri I B Kumar, Senior Administrative Officer.

Dignitaries also released booklet entitled “Laboratory manual on soil and water quality analysis for freshwater aquaculture”. An outdoor gymnasium was also inaugurated on this occasion. The Representatives of ICAR-CIWA; ICAR-CHES Bhubaneswar; NFDB & ICAR-CIFA’s retired employees also registered their participation in the function.Nine retired employees were also felicitated on the occasion. Dr. J. K. Sundaray, Head, FGBD and coordinator of the programme proposed the vote of thanks on this occasion.
