Run By People’s Cultural Centre [PECUC Under the Mentorship of National Commission for Women, New Delhi
Bhubaneswar, 29/01/2026 (Odisha Samachar /Rajat Mohapatra)- People’s Cultural Centre (PECUC), a socio-cultural voluntary non-profit organisation working in Odisha for the past 36 years, proudly announced the inauguration of a Pre-Marital Communication Centre (PMCC) at Indraprastha, Pokhariput, Bhubaneswar, under the mentorship of the National Commission for Women (NCW).
The launch of the PMCC was organised under the inspiration and guidance of Mr. Ranjan Kumar Mohanty, Secretary, PECUC, and the inaugural programme was presided over by Dr. Minakshi Panda, Chairperson, PECUC. The centre was inaugurated in the presence of Smt. Urmila Mahapatra, Smt. Prativa Satapathy, and Smt. Mukta Sahu, Members of the Odisha State Commission for Women; Smt. Madhumita Das, Clinical Psychologist and Secretary General, Indian Council of Child Welfare; Ms. Anuradha Biswal, Olympian; Ms. Anuradha Mohanty, Executive Director, PECUC; and Ms. Ratna Dash, Board Member, PECUC. The speakers emphasised the importance of pre-marital communication in today’s challenging social context, where the age-old sacred institution of marriage is increasingly under strain over minor issues. They highlighted that young couples should engage in open communication, understand each other’s expectations, and cultivate mutual respect and empathy before entering into marriage.
This centre is part of the National Commission for Women’s (NCW) visionary initiative to establish Pre-Marital Communication Centres (PMCCs) across the country, with the aim of strengthening the foundation of marriage through structured communication, awareness, and counselling. The newly inaugurated PMCC will provide a safe, inclusive, and professional environment for individuals and couples preparing for marriage. The centre will offer sessions on emotional compatibility, effective communication, shared responsibilities, gender sensitisation, legal awareness, and conflict resolution. These services will be facilitated by trained counsellors, psychologists, and legal experts to promote healthy, respectful, and equitable partnerships.
In today’s fast-changing social environment, couples often face challenges due to unspoken expectations, lack of communication, or misaligned values. PMCCs address these challenges early by: Enabling open, respectful, and honest conversations before marriage. Equipping individuals with tools for emotional intelligence and mutual understanding. Spreading awareness about legal rights and responsibilities in marriage. Preventing future conflicts, thereby reducing cases of domestic violence and breakdowns in marital relationships.
The National Commission for Women with assistance from State Government/ NGOs/ Academic Insititues plans to expand this initiative across all regions of India, with the goal of making Pre-Marital Communication Centres an integral part of community and institutional support systems. This proactive approach will contribute significantly to building stronger families and a more harmonious society.
