Bhubaneswar,4/4/2025 ( Odisha Samachar )-The ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (ICAR-CIFA) successfully conducted a Fish Harvest Mela and live fish sale on April 2, 2025. The primary objective of organising the event was to increase public awareness about the activities of ICAR-CIFA and to apprise them about the health benefits associated with regular fish consumption.
The event attracted significant interest, with gathering of more than 400 visitors to purchase live fish harvested from the ponds of the Institute farm. Eleven varieties of food fish were displayed and sold to the public in live conditions, ensuring maximum freshness and quality.
The event was widely publicized beforehand, contributing to the impressive turnout and overwhelming response from participants. Fish were made available at subsidized prices fixed by ICAR-CIFA. Additionally, the event highlighted ICAR-CIFA’s advanced fish production technologies, especially in the area of diversified aquaculture. Visitors expressed their satisfaction and appreciated the efforts of ICAR-CIFA.
The programme was supervised by Dr. P. K. Sahoo, Director of ICAR-CIFA and coordinated by Dr. P.C. Das, Head of the Aquaculture Production and Environment Division (APED) with involvement of all the employees from other Divisions and Administration.
Overall, the Fish Harvest Mela-cum-live fish show was a grand success. Considering the success of the event, it has been decided to organise such Harvest Mela in future to increase public awareness on freshwater aquaculture and the importance of fish as food for good health.
