ICAR-CIFA organizes aKisan Mela-cum-Exhibition on Scientific Aquaculture

Dhenkanal,14/2/2024( Odisha Samachar )-ICAR- Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Bhubaneswar, organized a Kisan Mela-cum-Exhibition on Scientific Aquacultureunder SCSP project on 13th February 2024 at Mini Stadium, Dhenkanal district of Odisha. Over540farmers and farmwomen participated in the mela.It shows that the community is interested in learning about cutting-edge scientific techniques in aquaculture and has responded positively to it.The Kisan Mela was inaugurated by Dr. P. K. Sahoo, Director, ICAR-CIFA.Dr. Sahoo briefed the participants on different CIFA technologies which help farmers to maximize their revenue.Others present on this occasion were Mr. Markanda Pradhan (ADA), Dhenkanal, Mr. Subrat Padhi (CDAO), Dhenkanal, Dr. Dambarudhar Samal (CDVO), Dhenkanal, Smt. Gitashree Padhi (DDH), Dhenkanal, Mr. Sangram Kar (DFO), Dhenkanal, Smt. Shephali Swagatika (DPC, Mission Shakti), Dhenkanal, Mr. Bikash Kumar Rath (Awhan NGO), Dhenkanal, and a group of scientists from ICAR-CIFA, Dr. C. K. Mishra, Dr. M. Samanta, Dr. A. Saha, and Mr. U. K. Udit. Dr. C. K. Mishra likely highlighted the advantages of scientific fish farming over traditional fish farming practices based on modern research. He also discussed about breeding, seed production, grow-out culture and techniques for improved soil and water quality management for higher production.Dr. M. Samantamade the farmers aware about the disease occurrence in fishes. Dr. A. Saha discussed about feeding behavior, nutrient requirements and development of feeds for different life stages of freshwater fish. Mr. U. K. Udit shared information about genetically improved varieties of fish and shellfish. Six stalls from various departments, including horticulture, agriculture, fisheries, CIFA, Awhan NGO, and Pvt. Aqua Shop, were set up during the mela. Lastly, Dr. C. K. Mishra conveyed the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all participants and contributors, and acknowledging the valuable knowledge and experiences shared during the programme.
