Bhubaneswar, 24/8/2023 ( Odisha Samachar )-Eminent Indian Aquaculture Scientist Dr.SatyendraDattTripathi noted for his contribution to the Aquaculture and fisheries research as well as for being an institution builder passed away on23 August 2023 Wednesday in Mumbai.
He was 88 years old. Born on December4, 1935, in Ichhawar, Bhopal DrTripathi’smade profound contributions to the fields of aquaculture and fisheries. He started his career as a project leader for CIFRI/ IDRC Project on Rural Aquaculture and subsequent roles as Project Coordinator for various initiative demonstrated his visionary approach to fostering sustainable practices in aquaculture and fisheries. He served as Director of ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (CIFA), Kausalyaganga during 1988-1994 and Vice-Chancellor of ICAR-Central Institute Fisheries Education(CIFE), Mumbai 1994-95, Team Leader, ICLARM, Bangladesh Office, Dhaka 1996-98. It was during his tenure that genetic improvement program of carps initiated at CIFA.
He was bestowed with many recognitions, awards and honours for his exceptional contribution from India and abroad like Hydrobiologist Gold Medal, The MPEDA Aquaculture Award, The SOFTI Award and fellowship of NAAS. He had written a number of research articles published in national and International journals.Condoling his death, Dr. P. K. Sahoo Director, ICAR- CIFA said “we are pained by Dr.Tripathy’s sad demise; we lost a brilliant scientist and academician who made a lasting contribution to the Indian aquaculture and fisheries research and education. With his demise, the country in general and Fishery science in particular lost a think tank, institution builder and a first generation of fisheries scientists.“
