Bhubaneswar /Bagibari , 17/5/2023 ( Odisha Samachar )- ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Kausalyaganga, Bhubaneswar, Odisha established an Aquaculture Field School at Kalong Kapil, Bagibari, Kamrup Metro, Assam on 15 May 2023. 
The Aquaculture Field School would serve as a knowledge centre of aquaculture technologies in the farmers’ field for the benefit of people of Assam and adjoining states. More than fifty participants including scientists, extension officials, bankers and farmers attended the event.
The aquaculture field school was inaugurated by Dr Pramoda Kumar Sahoo, Director of ICAR-CIFA in presence of Dr S K Swain, Dr P P Chakrabarty Principal Scientist, Dr D Sharma, MD, Fishfed, Assam, Dr Sanjay Sharma, Coordinator, APART, Shri Naveen Dhingra CGM, NABARD, Assam, Ms. Anushree, DFDO, Kamrup; Shri Zahirul Islam, Advisor, GIZ and Shri Jyotish Talukdar, Director of Kalong Kapili, the NGO at Bagibari, Kamrup Metro district of Assam. 
During the inauguration of the Aquaculture Field School, Dr Sahoo told that the Aquaculture Field School at Kalong Kapili would serve as a centre to provide technological information including improved varieties of Jayanti rohu, improved catla, soil and water parameters etc. to the farmers of nearby areas of Assam and other neighbouring states. Further, Dr Sahoo wished several such Aquaculture field schools should come up to solve the technological needs of the farmers. 
During technical session, the scientists of ICAR-CIFA had an interactive discussion with the extension officials, community resource persons, bankers and progressive farmers. The participants visited the farm facilities of the school including farm ponds, soil and water testing laboratory, FRP hatcheries, training hall, conference hall etc. Planting of horticultural crops like Guava was done on the dykes of farm ponds of the school.
The event was coordinated by Dr S K Swain, Dr P P Chakrabarty and Dr C K Misra, Principal Scientist of ICAR-CIFA, Bhubaneswar.
