Jajpur ,3/2/2023 ( Odisha Samachar ) – Harihat mela , a very popular regional festival observed in every Magha Saptami here in Karada village of Korei block ,Jaipur.
According to local since last 150 yrs this mela programme observes at the bank of Baitarani Tirtha Daswasa megh- Baraha- Sapta matruka inBiraja Kshetra jajpur.
After the harvest of Paddy one needs a little rest, Peace and laughter to retire from the tiring life of work and to entertain one’s family by dancing and laughing .
A Hat is generally means that there are multiple buyers and sellers available to exchange. But there is such a Hat where all the gods meet. That is called Harihat. Every year this fair starts from magha saptami with a ten days observation .
A ‘Nirbeda Jaina’ is performed in this fair. Devotees in different parts of the region offers ghee, fried Paddy sweetened by jaggery , coconut etc irrespective of caste, creed and colour etc is a rare sight which can not be seen anywhere in the state . Devotee prays Lord Dadhibaman jew of mela matha Pitha Sri Jagannath, Devi Subhadra, Sri Balabhadra Sri Chaitanya, Maa maha juam,, Rudra Narayana & Shree Sanischar , Sri Hanuman ji who are enthroned in the fair ground and gain their blessings many saints not only from Odisha state but also from the different parts of the country people are available here. Thousands of men, women , children from the state comes here and bless their lives by surrendering their hearts’ desires in ‘NirbedaJajna’. There is a popular belief that those who perform this holy ritual on magha saptami; will be blessed with a dip in the chandrakhaga and will be blessed with a son.
According to the abbot of the monastery, Sri Krushna Chandra Das, a man named Guman Singh of the village mula sar was on his way to Jajpur court while resting under a banyan tree on the banks of the Karada Pond when he heard the saun of ‘Nam sankirtan’. There he prayed to erichaitanya and got his desi Sulfilled. After the victory in the court Proceedings , a ‘NirbedaTajna was conducted and a Mandap with the idol of Shree Chaitanya was conducted. Harihat mela committee has re-organised and improved the monastery as well as the fair.
It is a village based fair the main attraction of which is the marketing of rural cottage industry. Local stoneware, bamboo and cane a house were, earthen ware are available here. Mina Bazar in addition to colourful swings, magic shows and circus entertains the travellers. Famous, opera troupes of Odisha Perform operas. here, especially folk dramas. Government and private stalls has been increasing the attraction of the fair.
Late Raghunath Sahoo and some other enthusiastic young people designed) the Mahotsav with a creative idea to give a special touch to this fair which has been held for more than 150 years and with a great aim to develop art and culture Harihat Mahotsav is committed to developing local culture and encouraging emerging artists of the region to thrive, Performance of artists from the state and outside the state is mesmerizing the travellers.
As the fair starts after the harvest a large number of people gather. The fair and Mahotsav are organized by Harihat mela and festival Committee of intellectuals, educationists, writers, journalist administration and general Public. This fair has become synonymous with Baruneswar mela and olashuni mela in the district. Meeting of all gods, Hari and Hara in one Peace, Nirbeda Jaina, Bhagabat, Gita, Nama Sankirtana celebrations are rare in the district and state. There is a popular demand for this place and the fair to be. Given the status of a tourist destination.
Government & District administration should take necessary steps for the development of this place that the villagers demand .
