Cuttack,16/5/2022 ( Odisha Samachar )- Sri Jasobanta Narayan Choudhury, Ex-Deputy General Manager, Electrical, EHT (O&M) Division, Baripada, Dist-Mayurbhanj, A/p-Deputy General Manager, Electrical, Bhubaneswar was facing trial in the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Baripada in Balasore Vigilance P.S. Case No.53 dated 24.10.2017 U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 for demand and acceptance of illegal gratification of Rs.3,000/- (Rupees Three Thousand) from a complainant (Cousin of owner of the Bolero) to prepare the bill and up to date the log book of the Bolero, which was engaged in rent basis in the O/o DGM, EHT Division, Baripada.
Today i.e. on 16.05.2022, the Hon’ble Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Baripada convicted Sri Choudhury, Ex-DGM, Electrical and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 years and to pay fine of Rs.15,000/- (Rupees Fifteen Thousand), and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 8 months for the offence U/s 7 Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The Hon’ble Court further sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 5 years and to pay fine of Rs.25,000/-(Rupees Twenty-five Thousand), and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 1 year for the offence U/s 13(2) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 r/w 13(1)(d). Both the sentences are to run concurrently. The convict Sri Choudhury, Ex-DGM, Electrical has been remanded to jail custody.
Sri P.K. Samal, Ex-Inspector of Vigilance, Balasore Division had investigated the case and Sri S.K. Ray, I/c Spl. P.P, Vigilance, Baripada conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution.
