Cuttack,22/3/2022 ( Odisha Samachar )- Sri Rabindra Kumar Panda, Ex-Asst. Teacher, attached to Kashinagar Block, Dist-Gajapati and Sri Chandra Sekhar Behera, Accountant, office of S.I. of Schools, Kasinagar Block, Dist-Gajapati were facing trial in the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur in Berhampur Vigilance P.S. Case No.14 dated 21.03.2012 U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7/10 Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 for demand and acceptance of illegal gratification of Rs.4,500/- (Rupees Four Thousand Five Hundred) (Rs.2000/- demanded by Sri Rabindra Kumar Panda & Rs.2,500/- demanded by Sri Chandra Sekhar Behera) from a complainant for preparing and passing the arrear bills of the complainant amounting to Rs.1,50,000/-.
On 22.03.2022, the Hon’ble Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur convicted Sri Rabindra Kumar Panda, Ex-Asst. Teacher and Sri Chandra Sekhar Behera, Accountant and sentenced them to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 years and to pay fine of Rs.5,000/- (Rupees Five Thousand) each, and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 4 months for the offence U/s 7 Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The Hon’ble Court further sentenced them to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 years and to pay fine of Rs.5,000/-(Rupees Five Thousand) each, and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 4 months for the offence U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Both the sentences are to run concurrently.
Sri R.K. Suna, Ex-Inspector, Vigilance Berhampur Division, A/p-DSP, Cuttack Division had investigated the case and Sri Surendra Kumar Panda, Spl. P.P, Vigilance, Berhampur conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution.
