Cuttack,22/9/2025 ( Odisha Samachar )-Today i.e. on 22.09.2025, Sri Biswaranjan Pradhan, Office Assistant-cum-Data Entry Operator, Welfare Section of Simulia Block, Dist-Balasorehasbeen apprehended by Odisha Vigilance for demanding and taking undue advantage (bribe) ofRs.5,000/-(Rupees Five Thousand)of overall demand of bribe Rs.10,000/- from a complainant for processing his application for grant of Govt. Assistance of Rs.2.5 lakhs under “Sumangal” scheme (for inter caste marriage) for marrying an SC girl on 31.03.2025.
For last 6 months, Complt. had been requesting accused Sri Pradhan to process his file for getting the benefit under Sumangal Scheme. But, accused Sri Pradhan demanded bribe Rs.10,000/- to process his file. When Complt. expressed inability to pay the demanded bribe, Sri Pradhan reduced the bribe amount to Rs.5,000/-. Finding no other means, Complt. alleged before Vigilance authorities narrating harassment by Sri Pradhan.
Based on the above complaint, a trap was laid on 22.09.2025, wherein the accused Sri Biswaranjan Pradhan, Data Entry Operatorwasnabbed by the team of Odisha Vigilance in his office roomfor demanding and taking undue advantage (bribe) of Rs.5,000/-(Rupees Five Thousand)from the complainant.The entire bribe money was recovered and seized from the possession of Sri Pradhanin presence of witnesses.Following the trap, simultaneous searches have been launched on the residential Govt. quarter of Sri Pradhanat Simulia and hisoffice room. Accused Sri Biswaranjan Pradhan, Data Entry Operator has been arrested and will be forwarded to the Court.
In this connection, Balasore Vigilance PS Case No.12 dated 21.09.2025 U/s 7Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered and is under investigation.
