International Artists Showcase Odissi Dance at Utkal Rangamanch
Bhubaneswar, 19/12/2024 ( Odisha Samachar / Rajat Mohapatra )-The timeless tradition of Odisha’s classical dance, Odissi, along with its vibrant folk dances, reflects the cultural ethos and identity of the state. To promote and exchange cultural values internationally, the Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Odissi Research Centre hosted the “Second Pravasi Nrutya Sangam” at its Utkal Rangamanch auditorium today.
The event was organized jointly by the Odisha Paribar Directorate and the U.S.-based organization ‘Nrutyasadhana,’ with the support of the Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Odissi Research Centre.
Prominent Odissi dancers from Nrutyasadhana performed captivating group Odissi dances that became the highlight of the event. Expressing gratitude to the Odisha government and the Department of Odia Language, Literature, and Culture, the dancers appreciated the opportunity to showcase their talent on Odisha’s sacred soil. They also pledged to promote Odissi dance and Jagannath culture globally.
Shri Bijay Ketan Upadhyay, Director of Odisha Paribar and Director of Culture Department graced the occasion as the chief guest. Other dignitaries included Guru Gajendra Kumar Panda, renowned Odissi dancer Smt.Sujata Mohapatra, and Nrutyasadhana founders Tapasi Rath and Suchilagna Panigrahi.
Tapasi Rath and Suchilagna Panigrahi gave mesmerizing solo Odissi performances, while Jyotirani Nayak and Suryakanta Pradhan performed an enchanting duet.
The program also featured folk dances such as Chhau by Mayur Art Centre, Sambalpuri by Dholamahuri Kalaparishad, Balangir, and Dhap by Brundavan Sanskrutik Anusthan, Kesinga, Kalahandi.
The event showcased the rich heritage of Odisha’s classical and folk traditions, reaffirming its global cultural significance.
