Jagatsinghpur ,21/9/2024 ( Odisha Samachar)- A 5-day training program on Mushroom Spawn Production Techniques was held at the KVK Jagatsinghpur Training Hall from 17th to 21st September 2024. Around 20 farmers and farm women from various blocks of Jagatsinghpur district actively participated in the programme.
The training covered detailed aspects of mushroom spawn production, including laboratory equipment such as autoclaves, laminar air flow units, and the use of various chemicals and ingredients. Participants gained hands-on experience in preparing mother culture, sub-culture, mother spawn, and commercial spawn. They were directly involved in activities such as media preparation, tissue culture, and spawn production.
Additionally, the training highlighted the potential of mushrooms, including their medicinal value, and the scope for off-season cultivation. Participants were introduced to cultivation techniques for paddy straw mushrooms, oyster mushrooms (Dhingri), milky mushrooms, and Ganoderma mushrooms. Post-harvest management, value-added product preparation, and disease and pest management were also covered. Information on government schemes supporting mushroom cultivation was shared.
The program was led by Ms. Sasamita Purohit, Scientist at KVK Jagatsinghpur. On the final day, the Senior Scientist and Head distributed certificates to the participants. The program was coordinated by other scientists and technical staff. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Sarita Das, Programme Assistant (Fisheries).
This training empowered the participants with vital knowledge and skills, promising to enhance mushroom cultivation in the region.
