 SNEH Cup Women’s Kabaddi Match-2023

Bhubaneswar,,25/6/2023 ( Odisha Samachar )-The Voluntary Organisation Society for Nature Education and Health (SNEH) organised a Kabaddi match named “SNEH Cup Women’s Kabaddi Match-2023, on Sunday, June 25, 2023, held at Salia Sahi here in Bhubaneswar. The match was conducted between the “Kalinga Stadium Women’s Kabaddi Team” and the “Unit-9 Women’s Kabaddi Team of the city. After winning the toss, Kalinga Stadium took the lead, and the match was held with renowned vigour. The “SNEH Cup Women’s Kabaddi Match-2023” was organised by SNEH with the objective of creating awareness about AIDS, gender discrimination, and empowering women. The match was formally inaugurated by TBT Ansari, Assistant Director (Film), I & PR Department, Government of Odisha. Sri Sudarshan Chhotray, Senior Journalist and Activist; Sri B.B. Jena, Former Director of NIFT; and Ms. Binduja Upadhyaya, Senior Correspondent from The Telegraph, attended the programme as guests of honour. SNEH’s president, Ms. Subarna Ghosh, congratulated the players and called on the slum women to lead the fight against AIDS and gender discrimination. The Unit-9 Women’s Kabaddi Team finally won the SNEH Cup- 2023. As a result, the Kalinga Stadium Women’s Kabaddi Team was awarded the Runner’s Up Cup, and Ms. Lakhmipriya Nayak was named the best player for her outstanding performance in the match. The programme is supervised and conducted by SNEH’s staff along with 40 volunteers from the slum. “In 2021, India witnessed 41,968 people lose their lives due to AIDS, and in Odisha, the toll was 1,627. Thus, “Know AIDS for No AIDS” is the best way to accomplish the global goal of no new HIV infections by 2030″, said Sri Sudarshan Chhotray, a social activist. “In our society today, women are neglected and deprived of various opportunities, and sports are one of them.  This is because of the prejudices in our society. But today, these women players have overcome the discrimination between boys and girls and have inspired other young women as well, said Binduja Upadhaya, Senior Journalist. This event is a part of SNEH’s ongoing programme, “Promoting Youth-Driven Community Changes for HIV Prevention, being implemented by SNEH for the slum community. The main objective of organising such sports activities is to inculcate a spirit of self-esteem and self-confidence among the marginalised youth in Saliasahi. This programme was supported by The Mercury Phoenix Trust.
