Bhubaneswar, 08/03/2021 ( Odisha Samachar )-: Society for Nature, Education and Health (SNEH) celebrated International Women’s Day among the women of Salia Sahi slum in Bhubaneswar on March 8. Women and adolescent girls of the slum participated in an event organized on the occasion. Odia cine star Ms Ankita Das addressed the gathering and exhorted the women to realize their potential and exercise their rights without fear.
SNEH has been implementing a peacebuilding project in eight habitations of the slum since 2017 with the support of Mennonite Central Committee, Kolkata. It has formed habitation based peace committees and building the capacity of the women leaders in conflict resolution and maintaining peace and harmony in the community. It has also set up a peace park inside the slum and educating the children on active non-violence and peaceful coexistence.
The women participated in various competitions and the winners were awarded prizes by the guests. The women of the slum also staged a skit to create awareness on women’s education and empowerment.
The meeting was presided by SNEH’s President Ms Subarna Ghosh and attended by Ms Manjula Patnaik and Mr Prakash Thankachan of Mennonite Central Committee, Kolkata.
