Bhubaneswar, 9 February 2021(Odisha Samachaar)- ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Bhubaneswar, Odisha in association with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Cooch Behar (Uttar Banga Krishi Viswavidyalay) today launched Aquaculture Farmer Field School at Chat Elajan and Livestock Farmer Field School at Elajaner Kuthi, Cooch Behar-I Block, Cooch Behar, West Bengal. ICAR-CIFA Scientists Dr.B.N.Paul, Dr.S.S.Giri, Dr.S.Adhikari, Dr.R.N.Mandal, Dr.H.K.De and Dr.Saroj Kumar Swain created these farmer field schools for farmer-farmer learning and dissemination of farming technologies. The initiatives of Dr. B. N. Paul, Nodal officer of SCSP Scheme and Dr. Bikas Roy, Head, Krishi Vigyan Kendra,
Cooch Behar have led to the establishment of Field Schools for empowering over 5000 farmers in 25 nearby villages in adopting scientific aquaculture and animal husbandry practices. Shri Sanjay Kirtania and Shri Purneswar Barman are the Operator Farmers for Aquaculture farmer Field School and Livestock Farmer Field School. Dr. Saroj Kumar Swain, Director of ICAR-CIFA appreciated the initiatives and assured the farmers and farm women the technical support from ICAR-CIFA. He highlighted the efforts made by ICAR-CIFA under SCSP programme in helping the farmers of Cooch Behar for adopting advanced farming techniques. Dr. S.S. Giri, Head, Fish Nutrition and Physiology Division of ICAR-CIFA highlighted the role of field schools on empowering farmers for strengthening rural livelihood. Dr. P. K. Pal, Director Extension Education, UBKV, Cooch Behar also addressed the farmers. Shri Amol Roy, CEO, Satmile Satish Club of Pathagar, Dr. S. Adhikari, Dr. R. N. Mandal, Dr. H. K. De, Scientists of ICAR-CIFA 
also participated in the programme. Around 100 farmers and farm women attended the programme maintaining COVID guidelines. Dr. Sankar Saha of Cooch Behar, KVK proposed vote of thanks.
