& TV’s Gudiya HumariSabhi Pe Bhari has continuously been entertaining viewers with its hilarious twists and turns in the simple life of Gudiya (Sarika Bahroliya). Another twist in Gudiya’s life is the upcoming episode that sees Gopi Desai’s entryas Bijli Bua. Gopi has been a part of the entertainment industry for almost four decades and with time, has carved a niche for herself with strong negative characters. In the show, Gopi will be seen suffering from the dire disease of short-term memory loss. Getting candid about her role, the veteran actor goes on to say:
- Tell us in brief about your journey so far?
I began acting in theatre as a child artist in the year 1978. To further enhance my skill-set, I signed up at the National School of Drama. I took a break from acting as I assisted ISRO as a production assistant for their experimental program to conduct their first satellite experiment of rural transmission. After that, I went on to act in many films and theatre productions which received a lot of critical appreciation. In the ’80s, I also performed and wrote many documentaries. I returned to the theatre with a Gujarati drama last year after 20 years. I am looking forward to seeing how my small screen association pans out with Gudiya HumariSabhi Pe Bhari.
- Tell us about your character in the show?
I play the role of Bijli Bua, who is Vidyut’s (Harshi Sharma) mother. Along with her son, she arrives at Pappu’s (Manmohan Tiwari) newly started guest house, and Gudiya (Sarika Bahroliya) welcomes them as they are their first customers. While Bijli believes that she and her son are having the time of their lives, Vidyut has different plans. Along with his wife Komal, he wishes to leave their ailing mother at Pappu’s guest house, disowning her.
- You have been a part of many shows, how is &TV’s Gudiya HumariSabhi Pe Bhari different from them all?
It is one show where there is never a dull moment. I have been following the storyline for some time now, and, I must say the Gupta’s and their hilarious situations are worth the watch. Another point worth mentioning is that there have been so many credible and leading names and faces from the industry associated with the show. I feel delighted to be one of them and am looking forward to leaving with a lasting impact.
- Given your character Bijli Bua, how similar is this character to your real-life persona?
Well, my character suffers from short term memory loss. I may not connect with my character completely, but after being in the industry for so many years, I take pride in the fact that I do not have to connect with my character personally to portray it on screen. Bijli Bua may seem like a cakewalk at one glance, but many small details need attention. And it is essential to pay attention to this aspect and quality.
- In the show, Vidyut intends on leaving his ailing and old mother at a guest house. Many children in real life abandon their aged parents, what would you like to say to them from a mother’s perspective?
In all honesty, I feel miserable with even the thought of this. Throughout a child’s life, parents make innumerable sacrifices to give them the best life. They are filled with patience, show understanding, and put up with their child, so why can’t they then look after their ailing parents when they are needed the most? I think this episode although it doesn’t take the hard-hitting route, doubles up as an eye-opener.
