Bhubaneswar,24/10/2025( Odisha Samachar/Rajat Mohapatra )-The State Level Conference on Rabi Campaign 2025-26 was held today at the Krushi Bhavan Auditorium in presence of Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister, Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment, Energy Minister Shri Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, DC-cum-ACS Smt. Anu Garg, Principal Secretary, Agriculture Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee.
The Rabi Campaign was approved by the Chief Secretary, Odisha on 22nd October 2025. The main features of Rabi Campaign includes, Odisha made a programme to cover around 29.30 lakh hectares under different crops during Rabi-2025-26 which includes 15.13 lakh hectares under pulses, 3.70 lakh hectares under Oilseeds, 4.97 lakh ha under vegetables, 1.15 lakh ha under Condiments and 0.21 lakh hectares under Sugarcane with the production target of 23.26 lakh MT for food grains , 8.20 lakh MT for pulses and 4.21 lakh MT for Oilseeds.
In his keynote address, Hon’ble Dy CM Shri Singh Deo stated that, to realize the vision, the entire government machinery must remain proactive and closely coordinated to ensure timely input supply, effective inter-departmental convergence, and continuous field-level monitoring. Unused agricultural farms can be converted to use for storage purposes. Strong leadership, dedicated supervision, and result-oriented implementation are essential to ensure that the benefits of these initiatives reach farmers, paving the way for a productive, prosperous, and climate-resilient Rabi season in Odisha.
DC-cum-ACS, Anu Garg said that, now we have achieved the surplus water level at the state reservoirs. We are aiming for 90% cultivable area should get irrigation facility. Use water efficiently for agriculture.
Principal Secretary, Agriculture Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee said that, the Rabi Programme 2025-26 has been formulated with a strategic focus on enhancing the area and productivity of pulses and oilseeds, with the long-term vision of achieving Atmanirbharata (self-sufficiency) in these crops. An MoU has been signed between DAFP & ICARDA for variety development.
Focused and coordinated efforts are essential for the successful implementation of flagship programmes such as Prime Minister Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY), National Pulse Mission, NMEO-Oilseed, NFSM, National Horticulture Mission, Jackfruit Mission, National Mission on Sustainable Agriculture (NMSA), RKVY, PMKSY, and PMFBY. Alongside these, State-run initiatives like Shree Anna Abhiyan, Rice Fallow Management, Balabhadra Jaivik Chasa Mission, Farm Mechanization, and other collaborative programmes must be vigorously implemented to accelerate agricultural growth and improve farmers’ livelihoods
The horticulture sector continues to expand steadily, with more farmers embracing modern technologies and diversifying into high-value crops for better income. Flagship programmes such as MIDH, PMKSY, NMEO-Oil Palm, and State schemes on Development of Potato, Vegetables, and Spices, as well as Special Fruit-Specific Schemes, require regular monitoring and timely intervention to ensure effective outcomes.
Simultaneously, Soil Conservation and Watershed Development initiatives like Coffee Mission, MGNREGS, Rainfed Area Development, and OMBADC play a critical role in promoting sustainable agriculture and enhancing resilience in rain-fed areas.
All the Collectors have been issued with a Rabi Circular by the Chief Secretary, Odisha for taking up the Rabi crop with appropriate strategy suitable to the agro-ecological situation of the district.
