24th National Level Handloom Expo kicks off

Bhubaneswar, 7/2/2026 ( Odisha Samachar/ Rajat Mohapatra )-The rich art and cultural heritage of India is renowned across the globe. Odisha’s handwoven textiles have made a remarkable contribution to the country’s textile legacy as well as to the global handloom sector.

The traditional Ikat (Bandha) weaving of Odisha, in particular, has earned a distinguished place on the map of Indian textiles for its intricate craftsmanship and timeless appeal. The National Level Handloom Expo is organized with the objective of providing a vibrant marketing platform for handloom weavers from across the country to showcase and sell their exquisite creations. The Expo also facilitates interaction among weavers, enabling them to exchange knowledge on skills, techniques, cost efficiency, and to study contemporary colour & design trends prevailing in different states.

Odisha State Handloom Weavers’ Cooperative Society Ltd. (Boyanika), the apex marketing society for handwovens in the State, is organizing the 24th National Level Handloom Expo at the Unit-III IDCO Exhibition Ground, Bhubaneswar, which will continue up to 22.02.2026. The Expo aims to provide enhanced marketing support to weavers from Odisha and various other states by offering a common platform for display and sale of their handloom products.

The Expo has been inaugurated today, 07.02.2026 at 06:30 P.M., by Shri Pradeep Bal Samanta, Hon’ble Minister, Co-operation and Handlooms, Textiles & Handicrafts, Odisha, in the presence of Smt. Guha Poonam Tapas Kumar, IAS, Commissioner-cum-Secretary to Government, Handlooms, Textiles & Handicrafts Department; Shri Prakash Chandra Meher, President, Boyanika; Dr. Nivedita Prusty, IAS, Managing Director, Boyanika; and other senior officers of the Department.

The Expo is sponsored by the Handlooms, Textiles & Handicrafts Department, Government of Odisha. Leading State-level organizations: Boyanika, Utkalika, Sambalpuri Bastralaya & Resham Odisha along with 50 Primary Weavers’ Cooperative Societies (PWCS) from Odisha and TATA Antaran, Gopalpur are participating.

In addition, 20 participants from outside the State are taking part in the event. A total of 80 stalls have been constructed. Weavers from Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Karnataka, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Delhi, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Gujarat will participate.

All stalls have been allotted free of cost to the participants. The major attraction of the Expo is its theme pavilion which has been constructed on the theme of Dhauli-The Peace Pagoda designed by Weavers Service Centre, Bhubaneswar. The Expo will remain open daily from 11:00 A.M. to 9:30 P.M. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore and purchase a wide range of handwoven products representing diverse weaving traditions from across the country. The expected business turnover during the Expo is approximately Rs. 10 Crore.
