GAIL CGD Bhubaneswar Conducts Level-III Offsite Mock Drill at CRPF Colony, Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, 18 /12/2025(Odisha Samachar/ Rajat Mohapatra)- GAIL CGD Bhubaneswar successfully conducted a Level-III Offsite Emergency Mock Drill at the CRPF Group Centre Colony, Bhubaneswar, on 18.12.2025, as part of its ongoing commitment to community safety, emergency preparedness, and public awareness.

The mock drill scenario simulated a gas leakage followed by fire due to rupture of a 32 mm MDPE City Gas Distribution pipeline, caused by third-party digging activity within the residential colony. The exercise aimed to assess the preparedness, coordination, and response effectiveness of various emergency response agencies and mutual aid partners.

The drill was conducted in close coordination with the district administration, CRPF, State Fire Services, NDRF, and GAIL’s pipeline and CGD divisions, ensuring a realistic and integrated emergency response.

Senior officials present during the exercise included DIG–GC CRPF Bhubaneswar Shri B.B. Sethi, DIG Shri Anand Jha, DIG (Medical) Dr. Rabindra Kumar, Commandant Shri Asit Kumar Choudary, Deputy Commandant Shri R.M. Nair, Dy. Commandant Shri Nakesh Kumar, and Assistant Commandants including Shri Rupesh Kumar, Shri Jagamohan Rao, Shri Prasanta Kumar Sahoo, Shri Sajal Debnath, and Shri H.P. Jana.

Representing civil and emergency authorities were Assistant Director of Factories & Boilers, Bhubaneswar, Er. Chandrakanta Dalei, District Project Officer Shri Santosh Kumar Behera, NDRF Inspector Shri Abijit Sahu, and ASO Fire Shri Ranjan Kumar Patnaik, who led the State Fire Service response.

From GAIL’s side, the drill was overseen by Shri Kausik Das, GM & Officer-in-Charge, GAIL CGD Bhubaneswar and Cuttack along with teams from GAIL India Limited’s Bhubaneswar Pipeline Division, headed by Shri Vishal Goel, and the GAIL CGD emergency response team.

During the exercise, emergency shutdown procedures were activated, the affected area was cordoned off, fire-fighting operations were initiated, injured persons were rescued and provided medical assistance by the CRPF medical team, and coordination among agencies was tested under simulated emergency conditions.

Speaking on the occasion, GAIL officials emphasized that such offsite mock drills are crucial for enhancing public awareness, strengthening inter-agency coordination, and ensuring readiness to respond effectively to gas-related emergencies, especially in populated areas.

The successful conduct of the drill reaffirmed GAIL CGD Bhubaneswar’s commitment to safe gas operations, community engagement, and adherence to national safety standards.
