Cuttack,6/9/2025 ( Odisha Samachar )-Today i.e. on 06.09.2025, Sri Prasanna Kumar Mahali, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Police, Subarnapur Out-post under Banki PS, Dist-Cuttackhasbeen apprehended by Odisha Vigilance for demanding and taking undue advantage (bribe) ofRs.20,000/-(Rupees Twenty Thousand)from a complainant (Bricks Factory Owner) to furnish seizure list and certified copy of FIR related to the case registered earlier to help complt. claim insurance as the said Factory had been set ablaze by some unknown miscreants. The complt. approached Sri Mahali repeatedly for the documents; however, Sri Mahali refused to furnish the required documents to the complt, unless he was paid the demanded bribe of Rs.20,000/-. Finding no other means, the complt. alleged before Vigilance authorities narrating his harassment.
Based on the above complaint, a trap was laid on 06.09.2025, wherein the accused Sri Prasanna Kumar Mahali, SI of Police wasnabbed by the team of Odisha Vigilance for demanding and taking undue advantage (bribe) of Rs.20,000/-(Rupees Twenty Thousand)from the complainant.The entire bribe money was recovered and seized from the possession of Sri Mahaliin presence of witnesses.Right hand washof Sri Mahaligave positive chemical reaction, confirming acceptance and handling of bribe money by him. Following the trap, simultaneous searches have been launched on the temporary residence of Sri Mahaliinside SubarnapurOut-post, residential house located at Vill-Behula, Po-Tikarpur, PS-Patakura, Dist-Kendraparaand his office room. Accused Sri Prasanna Kumar Mahali, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Police, Subarnapur Out-post under Banki PS, Dist-Cuttack has been arrested and will be forwarded to the Court.
In this connection, Cuttack Vigilance PS Case No.27 dated 05.09.2025 U/s 7Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered and is under investigation.
