Bhubaneswar, 2/8/2025 ( Odisha Samachar ) -The ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (ICAR-CIFA), Bhubaneswar, and the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment, Government of Odisha jointly organised the State-Level PM-KISAN Diwas celebration on 2nd August 2025. The event was aligned with the nationwide release of the 20th installment of the PM-KISAN scheme by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi from Varanasi, which was live-streamed to connect crores of farmers across the country.
The programme was graced by the esteemed presence of Shri Mohan Charan Majhi, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha, as the Chief Guest. In his address, the Hon’ble Chief Minister reaffirmed the State Government’s strong commitment to the welfare and prosperity of farmers. He highlighted key flagship schemes such as the CM Kisan Yojana and the Subhadra Yojana and appreciated the joint efforts of ICAR-CIFA and the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment, Government of Odisha, in organizing the event for the benefit of the farming community.He also released the commemorative booklet titled “ବର୍ଷ ଏକ ଉପଲବ୍ଧି ଅନେକ” (One Year – Many Achievements), showcasing the key milestones and success stories achieved in the agriculture and allied sectors across the state over the past year
Shri Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment and Energy, Government of Odisha, addressed the gathering and underscored the achievements in the agriculture sector in the state. He highlighted how the PM-KISAN scheme has provided timely support to lakhs of farmers across the state and reiterated the government’s focus on integrated development of agriculture and allied sectors.
Dr. J.K. Jena, Deputy Director General (Fisheries), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi in his address emphasized the role of ICAR in strengthening research and extension systems to reach last-mile farmers through technological interventions.
Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee, Principal Secretary, Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment, Government of Odisha, delivered the welcome address and expressed his confidence in the convergence efforts between state and central institutions to bring visible transformation in Odisha’s agricultural landscape.
The event was also attended by Professor Pravat Kumar Roul, Vice Chancellor, Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT), and several honourable Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), including Shri Babu Singh (Ekamra), Shri AshritPattanayak (Pipili), and Shri Prasanta Kumar Jagadev (Khordha). Senior administrative officials including Shri Subrat Kumar Panda, Director, Soil Conservation and Watershed Management, as well as the Collectors of Khordha and Puri districts.
As part of the celebration, a symbolic plantation programme under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative was carried out with enthusiastic participation from the dignitaries and farmers, promoting the environmental stewardship.
More than 3500 progressive farmers and farm women, including members from Self Help Groups (SHGs), participated in the event. They benefitted from a wide range of knowledge-sharing sessions, demonstrations, and exhibits related to sustainable agriculture, aquaculture, and integrated farming models.
The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks proposed by Shri AshritPattanayak, Hon’ble MLA, Pipili, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, farmers, officials, scientists, and partner institutions for their active involvement and contribution to the success of the programme.
The overall coordination of the event was led by Dr. P. K. Sahoo, Director, ICAR-CIFA.
