Combining solar and wind energy essential for reliable grid: Dy CM Shri Singh Deo

Bhubaneswar,15/07/2025(Odisha Samachar/Rajat Mohapatra)-  A meeting held on renewable energy today at Lokseva Bhavan conference hall under the chairmanship of Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister, Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment, Energy Shri Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo.

India has a history of wind energy generation spanning more than four decades. Odisha is working toward its renewable energy targets for wind and solar power, making progress in utilizing its natural resources, long coastline, and barren hilltops to generate wind power. Deputy Chief Minister Shri Singh Deo emphasized that combining solar and wind energy is essential for a reliable grid.

The meeting discussed the production potential, challenges, and feasible way forward to enhance the wind energy generation capacity which is essential to achieve the Nationally Determined Commitments (NDCs). Wind energy is crucial to India’s efforts in achieving 50% of its electric power installed capacity from non-fossil fuel-based energy resources by 2030 and net zero by 2070. A South African company named Eveready gave a presentation on the establishment of the wind turbines in some of the districts of Odisha.

The meeting was attended by the Principal Secretary, Energy Shri Vishal Kumar Dev, GRIDCO, MD Dr. Satyapriya Rath, FA-cum- Special Secretary Shri Debidutta Tripathy, Additional Secretary, Shri Saidutta Biplab Keshari, Eveready South Asia Business head Shri Arijit Das, Senior officers from, irrigation & water resources, agriculture & farmers empowerment, energy department.
