FURTHER, CASH RS.1.26 LAKH RECOVERED DURING PERSONAL SEARCH OF SRI DAS.
TOTAL CASH SEIZURE COMES TO RS.2.26 LAKHS.
Cuttack,3/4/2025 ( Odisha Samachar )- Today i.e. on 02.04.2025, Sri Naresh Kumar Das, Asst. Engineer (AE), Rural Works (PH) Division, Bhubaneswar has been apprehended by Odisha Vigilance for demanding and taking undue advantage (bribe) of Rs.1,00,000/-(Rupees One Lakh) from a Contractor (Complainant) in lieu of clearing bills of approximately Rs.7 Lakhs. Complt. had been requesting accused Sri Das, AE for few days to clear his above pending bills. But, Sri Das refused to clear his bills, if he was not paid the demanded bribe Rs.1 Lakh by him. Left with no option, complainant reported the matter to the Vigilance authorities, narrating his harassment by Sri Das, AE.
Based on the above complaint, a trap was laid on 02.04.2025, wherein the accused Sri Naresh Kumar Das, AE was nabbed by the team of Odisha Vigilance in his office room for demanding and taking undue advantage (bribe) of Rs.1,00,000/-(Rupees One Lakh) from the Contractor. The entire bribe money was recovered from the possession of Sri Das and seized in presence of witnesses. Both hands wash as well as pant pocket wash of Sri Das gave positive chemical reaction, confirming acceptance and handling of bribe money by him. Besides the above amount, additional suspected ill-gotten cash of Rs.1,26,000/- was recovered during his personal search during the trap, and seized. Total cash seized is Rs.2,26,000/- has been seized. Following the trap, simultaneous searches have been launched on the rented residential house of Sri Das at Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneswar, his house located at Turang, Shital Vihar, Angul, parental house at Sahupada, PS-Pallahara, Dist-Angul and his office room. Accused Sri Naresh Kumar Das, Asst. Engineer has been detained for further interrogation.
In this connection, Bhubaneswar Vigilance PS Case No.05/2025 U/s 7 Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered and is under investigation.
