Bhubaneswar, 13/03/2025( Odisha Samachar / Rajat Mo0hapatra):A meeting on implementation of sustainable Irrigation Project was taken by Smt. Anu Garg,IAS, Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary of Government, Department of Water Resources on Wednesday dt.12.03.2025. It was also attended by the Principal Secretary, FARD, Directors and senior officers of the stakeholder Departments.
The DC-cum- ACS, asked the functionaries of the key Departments to focus on effective convergence and boosting expenditure.
The impact that the Odisha Integrated Irrigation Project for Climate Resilient Agriculture (OIIPCRA) has made through various climate smart interventions in 538 Minor Irrigation tanks in the 15 selected districts under the project was presented.
Civil works such as head works; re-sectioning of the dam profile; strengthening of the dams by stone riprap packing, turfingetc have been taken up in 157 MIPs and work is on in another 189.120 KMs of field channels have been built for conveying irrigation water to 4500Ha of the command area.
PaniPanchayats of the tank ayacuts have been supported with 113 Customs Hiring Centres (CHCs) for adopting participatory farm mechanisation; 1236 solar bore wells for providing additional irrigation to 6180 Ha for taking up climate smartagriculture and horticulture practices; 688 pack housesfor processing, grading, storage of vegetables post-harvest; 125 MT capacity of cold roomsto avoid post- harvest losses and better realization of market prices; 592 preservation unitsfor value addition through drying, canning, freezing, or other preservation methods; 131 sabjicoolersforstoring vegetables and avoiding distress sale during the glut periodand 344 onion storage structures for augmenting regular supply to consumers and to manage price fluctuation.
Besides, WSHGs,PFCS,PPs have been supported with scientific pisciculture in 846.27 Ha for increased fish production; 518 bio-flocunits for growing multiple species in less area; 297 fishing drag nets for better and timely fish harvest; 57 fish marketing vehicles for faster market access.
Further, 10.88 lakh kg of Nitrogen has been added to the soil; 236.71 kg of sequestration of carbon done through green manuring in 13604 Ha and 1.92 lakh kg of CH4 emission reduced by adopting Dry DSR in 6895 Ha.
