ICAR-CIFA organised Kisan Mela at Sakhigopal

Sakhigopal ,16/01/2025 ( Odisha Samachar) -ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (ICAR-CIFA), Bhubaneswar, organized Kisan Mela under the SCSP project on January 15th, 2025 at Panchasakha,Sakhigopal in Satyabadi block of Puri district, Odisha.The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from around600 beneficiaries, including around 580 women farmers and 20 male farmers, underscoring the vital role of women in aquaculture and associated community activities.The ICAR-CIFA scientific team, led by Dr. Ashis Saha, Dr.Prem Kumar Meher, and Dr. Uday Kumar Udit, interacted with the farmers to address their challenges and introduced them to advanced technologies developed by the institute in aquaculture. Dr. Saha spoke about the benefits of the SCSP program for farmers, the importance of fish feed management, and the potential of fish farming as an additional income source. Dr. Meher discussed about quality seed production and its use for better growth of the offspring. Dr. Ambika Prasad Nayak, KVK-Fishery Officer, emphasized the adoption of fish-based integrated farming systems and the various facilities provided by KVK. Dr. Uday Kumar Udit highlighted different types of fish seed varieties and explained why fish farming is economically more viable than paddy cultivation.Mrs. BishnupriyaBaral, ZillaParisad, Puri, encouraged farmers to consult the scientific team of KVK and CIFA to adopt advanced fish farming technologies to improve their livelihoods. The program also saw active participation from members of the Satyabadi Farmers Producers Company, Shreedikshya Farmers Producers Company, Samarpita Farmers Producers Company, NilachalKrushak Sangha, and Chinmayee Rout, Sarpanch of Pentapada.The event was effectively coordinated by SandhyaraniMohanty, President of the Satyabadi Farmers Producers Company, and Sabita Panda, President of the Shreedikshya Farmers Producers Company. Input Distribution (Fish Seed) was done among Ten Fish Farmers from SCSP Adopted Villages.

The program concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks from Dr. Uday Kumar Udit, who expressed his gratitude to all the participants and contributors. The initiative was widely regarded as a valuable and impactful program, providing practical insights and solutions for sustainable aquaculture development.
