Bhubaneswar, 08/01/2025( Odisha Samachar / Rajat Mohapatra)- Odisha is endowed with an abundance of natural resources as well as timeless art, culture and tradition. The unique folk art, classical dance, folk dance, music, and culinary traditions of our state are recognized at the international level. Deputy Chief Minister Smt. Pravati Parida said that state Government is committed to positioning Odisha as a leading state in the global tourism map. She was speaking in a session on the theme ‘Unraveling India’s Best Kept Secret’ on the first day of the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Conference here.
Smt. Parida mentioned that on such a significant occasion, visitors from both domestic and international destinations will explore various tourist spots in Odisha, thus familiarising themselves with our unique art, culture, and traditions. The government has been making continuous efforts on preserve and promote our cultural resources and tourism potential to attract more tourists. She also underlined on other tourism products such as eco-retreats and highlighted on the possible prominent role of women in employment sector.
The discussion included India’s G-20 Sherpa Mr. Amitabh Kant, renowned chef Mr. Sanjeev Kapoor, CMD of Lalit Suri Hospitality Group Ms. Jyotsna Suri, co-founder and Managing Director of Wedding Line Mr. Chetan Bohra, and Commissioner-cum-Secretary of Odisha Tourism Mr. Balwant Singh, among others. There was an extensive discussion on Odisha’s famous temples, sanctuaries, forest resources, wildlife, and culinary culture along with exchange of views on Odisha’s global recognition for traditional cuisine.

Odisha, known as the gateway to Eastern India, is a treasure trove of natural resources. With a coastline stretching over 480 kilometers, abundant rivers, rich mineral resources, and thousands of acres of forest, Odisha is a powerhouse. Additionally, there is skilled human capital available here. Considering these aspects, Odisha is extremely favourable for tourism and investment compared with other states, said Deputy Chief Minister Shri Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo . Speaking in the session titled “Odisha : A land of opportunities”, he stated that developing sports infrastructure along with improving air connectivity both domestically and internationally could significantly boost Odisha’s economy. He emphasised the importance of heritage tourism, wildlife tourism, and developing Buddhist tourism sites.
Development Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary Smt. Anu Garg highlighted on various development sectors such as connectivity, infrastructure, industries, along with women empowerment, health and nutrition. She also stressed upon socio-economic equality in the state. Saying that Odisha has moved from the low-income state category to the middle-income category, Smt. Garg envisioned state’s future as a high-income category state.
Padma Bhushan Abhinav Bindra, founder of the Abhinav Bindra Foundation, stressed the role of sports in Odisha’s development. Among others, the Chief Skill Officer of World Skill Center (Odisha), Mr. Brunce Poh, Chairman of Paradip Port, Mr. P.L. Haranadh, Director of Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER), Dr. Deepak Mishra, and Chief Development Officer of Bharat Biotech, Dr. Raches Ella also participated.
