Bhubaneswar, 30/08/2024(Odisha Samachar/Rajat Mohapatra)-Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi laid foundation stone of a state-of-the-arthygienic wholesale fish market at Bahrda (Basta) in Balasore district in the virtual mode.Prime Minister inaugurated and laid foundation of various Fisheries projects worthRs.1200.00 Crore under PMMSY & FIDF and launching of Rollout of VesselCommunication & Support System worth Rs.364.00 Crore today at Palghar, Maharastra. ShriRajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lallan Singh, Union Minister of Panchayati Raj and Union Ministerof Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal Union Minister forPorts, Shipping and Waterways, Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel Union Minister of State Fisheries,Animal Husbandry and Dairying and Panchayati Raj, Shri George Kurian, Union Minister ofState Minority Affairs and Fisheries Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Shri Shantanu Thakur,Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways were present inthe programme.
Attending a function organised at Bahrda, Sri Gokulananda Mallik, Minister,Fisheries and ARD, MSME said that the wholesale fish market will facilitate trading ofmarine, brackish and inland fish in a single window to promote export potential. Describing ita unique flagship project in the State Sri Mallik said that Odisha is the 4th largest fishproducing State having 7.07 Lakh Ha inland, 4.81 Lakh brackish water areas. The projectwith an estimated cost of 78.25 Cr. will be completed within June 2026, he said.
The fish market under centrally sponsored scheme of Pradhan Mantri MatsyaSampada Yojana (PMMSY) will have facilities of laboratory, vendor shops, rest and packingroom, loading and unloading bay, blast room, chiller plant, security barrack, parking, solarand power system, fire safety arrangement etc. The market stretching 20 acres of land will of2500 MT capacity.Sri Pratap Chandra Sarangi, MP, Balasore, Sri Manas Kumar Dutta, MLA, Balasore,Smt. Subasini Jena, MLA, Basta, Sri Suryawanshi Mayur Vikas, Collector, Balasore and Md.Saddique Alam, Director, Fisheries were also present in the programme .
