Pioneering Collaborations in Higher Education and Emerging Technologies
Bhubaneswar,21/08/2024 (Odisha Samachar / Rajat Mohapatra)- In a significant event at the World Skill Center, Bhubaneswar, Hon’ble Minister Shri Sampad Chandra Swain inaugurated a series of groundbreaking skill development initiatives under the Nua Odisha Scheme. These initiatives, led by the Skill Development and Technical Education (SDTE) Department in collaboration with the Higher Education Department, are aimed at equipping Skilled-In-Odisha with the advanced skills required to meet the employability demands of an ever-evolving global job market.
A key highlight of these initiatives is the collaboration between SDTE and Coursera, which aims to provide access to 6,000 world-class courses to youth across all 30 districts of the state. This digital skilling initiative is set to bridge geographical gaps and enhance access to high-quality education. A total of 100,000 Coursera licenses will be distributed to learners from diverse academic backgrounds, including those enrolled in higher educational institutions, ITIs, and polytechnics across Odisha.
Customized learning tracks have been developed for B.Tech students, with similar tracks being created for Polytechnic and ITI students. These tracks will enable students to engage with personalized and industry-relevant curricula offered by leading institutions such as Google, Microsoft, IBM, and Amazon. Engineering students can also integrate these courses into their curriculum for advanced competency credits, covering subjects such as Python Programming, Data Science Foundations, Cloud Computing, Robotics, Cybersecurity, and more.
In another significant development, SDTE has partnered with IIT Delhi to launch an upskilling program focused on future technologies. This collaboration will provide training and certification to 4,000 youths in areasincluding Blockchain Development, Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT). The program will be launched in Kalahandi, Bhawanipatna, and Cuttack, with a focus on a project-based learning approach. To date, 1,670 candidates from over 130 institutions have registered for these cutting-edge courses.
Further broadening the scope of opportunities for Odisha’s youth, SDTE has forged a strategic partnership with AISATS, GMR and Bird group to offer certification in aviation under the Nua Odisha. Currently, 40 trainees are undergoing training in Hyderabad, preparing for certification in Ground Handling and Airport Operations.
The inauguration ceremony was distinguished by Smt. Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary, SDTE Department, Shri Aravind Agrawal, Commissioner cum Secretary,Higher Education Department, and other senior officials from the departments. These initiatives mark a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to foster skill development and enhance the employability of Viksit Odisha’s youth in a rapidly changing global economy.
