Bhubaneswar,4/3/2024 ( Odisha Samachar)- ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, a premier institute for research in freshwater aquaculture observed National Science Day today. The Institute observed an open day where in young school children fromArjunaswardev Nodal High School,KairiPipiliand RadhamohandevUchaBidyapitha,GangapurpatnaDelanga came and explored fishery science. Scientists of the institute took the student on a guided tour to farm facilities Diversified species, Murrel Unit,Air breathing fish, Feed Mill, Pearl culture unit and Aquarium. Around 120 students participated in this event.
Dr. S. S. Giri, Head, Fish Nutrition Physiology Division, ICAR-CIFAgraced the occasion as Chief Guest and inspired the students to follow the path of science for betterment of society
He elaborated on this year’s theme for National Science Day 2024 ‘Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat’, which matches with innovation and accomplishments of Indian scientists to address challenges through home-grown technologies for overall well-being. He cited the example of Indian scientific breakthroughs that reached from the lab to moon, with the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 on South pole of moon, etc. Dr. Giri also informed about the use of indigenous technologies in freshwater Aquaculture.Earlier Dr. P.K. Meher, Principal Scientist, ICAR-CIFA welcomed guests and the students. Dr. Chandrakant Mishra, Principal Scientist, ICAR-CIFA gave a brief outline on the significance of this day.Sri Anil Paikray, TGT,Arjunaswardev Nodal High School,KairiPipilisaid thatthis exposure visit to such a large institute and its facilities will have a persistingimpression on the young minds. He thanked the officials of CIFA for having invited students and for providing such a nice exposure to CIFA and its activities.
