Food safety and security targets mean a growing market for Bühler solutions

RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA – EQS Newswire – 4 December 2023 –
Growing collaboration between the public and private sector in the food processing industry in Saudi Arabia has resulted in increased sales of Bühler’s impact detacher and optical sorting machines to assist with food safety in grain handling processing. The government’s Saudi Vision 2030 has fast-tracked the privatization of the industry, starting with flour milling, and Bühler’s technology is in demand.

Impact Detacher

The new private players in the food processing industry in Saudi Arabia have very different visions in terms of plants optimization and business diversification, but they all share the same goals of the food safety targets set by the government in its initiative Saudi Vision 2030. As a result. Bühler’s impact detacher and optical sorting machines are now much in demand; however, Bühler owes its leading edge in the Saudi market to the fact that it is much more than merely an equipment supplier.

“We are a solution provider and true partner that covers the full spectrum from wheat to flour and semolina to pasta, Asian noodles and sweet biscuits and wafers. We have been present in the kingdom since 1978 and have a local capability in sales and after-sales services,” says Jebabra Mohamed, Country Manager, Bühler Saudi Arabia.

Bühler’s most distant customer is only a two hour-flight away in the event that on-site service is required, and it is also able to carry out
remote care maintenance. The team in Riyadh comprises numerous nationalities, which is a major advantage in terms of understanding customer requirements.

“We speak the customer’s language, be it Arabic, French, English, Urdu or Hindi,” says Jebabra. “We believe that our performance assessment workshops carried out on site are the right approach to achieving the set goals in terms of efficiency enhancement of a plant. This is a value-added service by Bühler, whereby a dedicated process engineer or other expert identifies pain points and finds solutions following clear targets from the customer. Like a plant doctor that gives an overview of the health of the plant, it serves as a basis for the customer in the decision-making process.”

Improving food safety and security

The burgeoning grain silo sector in Saudi Arabia has underlined the importance of certain essential machines supplied by Bühler. The high temperatures provide the ideal conditions for insect and pest infestations, which is where the group has identified the need for its
Matador impact detacher machine. The Matador exterminates more than 99.5% of insect eggs in flour and semolina after the milling process, thus providing a very high level of food safety.

In another segment, the latest developments in optical sorting technology are represented by the
SORTEX H SpectraVision, an all-new optical sorter designed to supply maximum yields by delivering up to 50% higher reject concentrations. The adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) has resulted in innovative ejection, calibration, and tracking algorithms that improve machine consistency and reduce false rejects. And compliance with Industry 4.0 standards in this case means that machine performance can be controlled and viewed from anywhere in the world.

Geopolitical tension between Russia and Ukraine, two of the top three grain exporters, has placed food security at the top of the economic agenda – and Saudi Arabia is no exception. This is followed closely by food safety as a global priority, with one in 10 consumers worldwide suffering a foodborne illness every year. Bühler’s technology and solutions are therefore critical in order to address food security and safety issues globally.
