Bhubaneswar,18/10/2023(Odisha Samachar)- ICAR-CIFA has signed MoU with three Aquaculture entrepreneurs cum hatchery owners Mrs. JhulekhaFirojTamboli, Pune, Maharashtra, Mrs. JhinaParida, Kendrapada, Odisha and Mr. Kumara Swamy, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh for being authorized multiplier units for dissemination of genetically improved AhRJayanti and improved catla developed through selective breeding by ICAR CIFA. The MoU was signed on 16th October 2023. The meeting was presided byDr. P. K. Sahoo, Director, ICAR-CIFA.Dr. J. K. Sundaray, Head, Fish Genetics and Biotechnology Division, Dr. P. Das, Scientist in Charge, PME Cell, Dr M Samanta, Head, FHMD, Dr S K Swain, Head, APED, Dr G S Saha, SIC, Social Science Section, Chief Administrative Officer and Finance and Accounts officer and all the scientists from Fish Genetics and Biotechnology Division attended the meeting.
Dr. P. K. Sahoo, Director ICAR-CIFA told that the institute has played a crucial role in freshwater aquaculture development in the country by developing different technologies for aquaculture farmers. The AhRJayantirohu and improved catla if disseminated widely can play major role in doubling the farmer’s production and income he added. He expressed his views on signing of more number of MoUsin coming future for effective dissemination of improved varieties developed by ICAR-CIFA.
Mr. Vijay Shikhare, Regional Deputy Commissioner of Fisheries, Department of Fisheries, Maharashtra shared his experience of long collaboration with ICAR-CIFA since 2017 and the benefits of using CIFA technologies such as Jayantirohu, portable FRP carp hatchery to the farmers of Maharashtra. He also assured the monitoring of quality of seed produced at multiplier hatcheries of Maharashtra as per the MoU terms and conditions.
Dr. J. K. Sundaray, Head, Fish Genetics and Biotechnology Division welcome all the dignitaries and he said that multiplier units are the brand ambassador of the CIFAtechnologies for wider dissemination of the AhRJayantirohu and improved catla across the country. Dr.KhuntiaMurmu, Principal Scientist briefed about the MoU terms and he urged the stakeholders to follow the guidelines of rearing and breeding improved varieties.
Dr. Kanta Das Mahapatra, Former Principal Scientist, FGBD talked about the history of selective breeding program at ICAR-CIFA. She told that along with dissemination the maintaining the purity of genetically improved varieties is also important for sustainable production and for this the multiplier units and ICAR-CIFA should work cohesively. All the hatchery owners shared their experience about the success of Jayantirohu and improved catla in their farm and also talked about their expectations from ICAR-CIFA. Theyopined that the performance of Jayantirohu and improved catla is always better than local stock available.
