Bhubaneswar,21/10/2022 ( Odisha Samachar )- ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture,Bhubaneswar organized a Scientist-Extension-Farmers interface meeting on Ornamental Fish Breeding and Culture under SCSP Scheme on October 20, 2022 at Palei, Dagarapada, Block- Derabish, Kendrapara. The programme was organized in association with Department of Fisheries, Kendrapara and Jay BharatiSathiSamaja, an NGO based at Derabish. More than sixty participants including Scientists from ICAR-CIFA, Extension officials from Fisheries Department, Kendrapara, Mission Shakti, Members from Jay BhartiSathiSamaj, members of women SHGs such as Jaydurga Women SHG, Sapalang and Sairam Women SHG, Kapaleswarattended the event. The objective of the event was to take a stock of the present practices and to formulate future strategies to empower the women through adoption of improved practices of ornamental fish breeding and culture.
At the backdrop of the event, DrSaroj Kumar Swain, Director, ICAR – CIFA, Bhubaneswar emphasized for promoting the spread of improved practices of Ornamental fish breeding and culture to improve the livelihood of SC families in Kendrapara district of Odisha. Similarly, Dr H K De, Principal Scientist & Chairman, SCSP Cell, ICAR-CIFA also suggested for transfer of technologies of ornamental fish breeding and culture amongst the SC Communities for their socio-economic development.
During the event, DrSatanarayanSethi, Principal Scientist &Odisha state nodal officer, SCSP, ICAR-CIFA stated the need of taking up of ornamental fish breeding with full enthusiasm for harnessing the economic benefits of the ornamental fish farming business. Shri M Firoz Kahn, ADFO, Kendrapara suggested for adoption of CIFA technologies for the benefit of SC women particularly the ornamental fish breeding and culture. Dr C K Misra, Principal Scientist, ICAR-CIFA narrated different aspects of ornamental fish breeding and culture.
During the event, inputs such as colorful live bearer ornamental fishes, such as Guppy, Molly and Platy; ornamental fish feeds, medicines, ornamental plants and other accessory materials were distributed to twenty two members of two women SHGs such as JayDurga WSHG, Sapalng, Dagarpada, Kendrapara and Sairam Women SHG, Kapaleswar, Kendrapara. The members were provided with practical knowhow on rearing and breeding of ornamental fishes.
Earlier ShriNiranjanSahoo, Secretary of Jay BhartiSathiSamaj, Kendrapara welcomed all the participants. The event was coordinated by Shri Sisir Kumar Mahanty, ACTO, ICAR-CIFA, Bhubaneswar.
