Cuttack,25/3/2022 ( Odisha Samachar )- Sri Surya Narayan Maharana, Ex-Asst. Teacher, in-charge Head Master (retired), City High School, Berhampur was facing trial in the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur in Berhampur Vigilance P.S. Case No.3 dated 12.01.2011 U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(c)(d) Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988/409/467/ 468/471/477-A IPC for misappropriating Govt. money of Rs.2,67,945/- by manipulating the records in connection with purchase of science equipments of the School.
Today i.e. on 25.03.2022, the Hon’ble Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur convicted Sri Surya Narayan Maharana, Ex-Asst. Teacher, in-charge Head Master(retired) and sentenced him to undergo simple imprisonment for a period of 2 years and to pay fine of Rs.5,000/- (Rupees Five Thousand), and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further simple imprisonment for a period of 4 months for the offence U/s 13(2) r/w (1)(d) Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The Hon’ble Court further sentenced him to undergo simple imprisonment for a period of 3 years and to pay fine of Rs.2,000/-(Rupees Two Thousand), and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further simple imprisonment for a period of 2 months for the offence U/s 409/467/471 IPC for each Sections and also sentenced to undergo simple imprisonment for 2 years and to pay fine of Rs.2,000/- (Rupees Two Thousand), and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further simple imprisonment for a period of 2 months for the offence U/s 468/477-A IPC. All the sentences are to run concurrently.
Sri Prabir Keshari Tripathy, Ex-Inspector Vigilance, Berhampur Division had investigated the case and Sri P.K. Dora, Addl. Spl. P.P, Vigilance, Berhampur conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution.
