Cuttack,1/2/2022 ( Odisha Samachar )- Today i.e. on 01.02.2022 Sri Biranchi Narayan Sahoo, Junior Engineer (JE), office of BDO, Talcher, Dist-Angul was arrested by Odisha Vigilance and forwarded to the Court of Spl. Judge Vigilance, Angul for possession of disproportionate assets worth Rs.2,10,72,269/-, which he could not account for satisfactorily. The Hon’ble Court has remanded him to judicial custody till 14.02.2022. In this connection, Cuttack Vigilance P.S. Case No.8 dt.31.01.2022 was registered against Sri Biranchi Narayan Sahoo, JE and his spouse U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b) /12 Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act-2018.
On the allegation of possession of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income by Sri Biranchi Narayan Sahoo, Junior Engineer (JE), office of BDO, Talcher, Dist-Angul, simultaneous house searches were conducted at 4 places in Angul and Dhenkanal district on 31.01.2022 by 4 teams of Odisha Vigilance led by 4 DSsP, 8 Inspectors and other staff on the strength of Search Warrants issued by the Hon’ble Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Angul. During searches, the following assets have been unearthed;
- One double storeyed building at Kumunda and one single storeyed building at Ambapal both under PS-Angul Sadar, Dist-Angul.
- 4 plots including 3 plots at Kumunda and 1 plot at Ambapal in Angul district.
- Bank deposits including Fixed deposits worth Rs.1,11,71,285/-in name of Sri Sahoo, his spouse and his family members.
- 1 four wheeler (Hyundai i20 Active).
- 4 two wheelers.
- Insurance deposits worth Rs.12,56,515/-.
- Gold ornaments weighing 261 gms worth Rs.10,44,000/- and other movable and immovable properties, all totalling to over Rs 2.26 Crore.
After thorough search, inventory and further enquiry, the income, expenditure and assets of Sri Biranchi Narayan Sahoo, JE were calculated and he was found in possession of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income to the tune of Rs.2,10,72,269/-(Rupees Two Crore Ten Lakh Seventy-two Thousand Two Hundred Sixty-nine) which constituted 680% of his known sources of income.
Investigation of the case is in progress.
